HONEST ANIME REVIEW: Yuri on Ice

Synopsis:

Reeling from his crushing defeat at the Grand Prix Finale, Yuri Katsuki, once Japan’s most promising figure skater, returns to his family home to assess his options for the future. At age 23, Yuri’s window for success in skating is closing rapidly, and his love of pork cutlets and aptitude for gaining weight are not helping either.

However, Yuri finds himself in the spotlight when a video of him performing a routine previously executed by five-time world champion, Victor Nikiforov, suddenly goes viral. In fact, Victor himself abruptly appears at Yuri’s house and offers to be his mentor. As one of his biggest fans, Yuri eagerly accepts, kicking off his journey to make it back onto the world stage. But the competition is fierce, as the rising star from Russia, Yuri Plisetsky, is relentlessly determined to defeat Yuri Katsuki and win back Victor’s tutelage.

My Rating: 7/10

My views:

So guys last winter there was a new anime released by the name of Yuri on Ice” and when I read it’s synopsis I thought come on what fun would it be to watch a sport anime, that too, an ice skating sports anime.

But after few months it was on every anime fan’s mouth all around the world. That’s the reason which made me watch it and even after that I didn’t have much expectations from it. And after watching it i came to a conclusion that it really deserved a place in my Top Sports Anime Series list.

It is a good anime. It has awesome art style, believe me, it’s art style is beautiful. And the art style is not the only thing that’s beautiful in it, the music is beautiful as well. The music is so good that it touches your heart. The story is good but a little too cliché for sports anime.

It shows the struggle of the protagonist to the top position. The pacing of the story is good. There are too many comedy scenes in it which is a good thing as it won’t let you get bored.

Few problems with the anime are that more than half of the anime shows you just skating (which it should because it’s a sports anime) and most of the time it’s same, so it gets boring with time. Another problem is that it gets a little creepy since whole cast comprises of boys and by creepy i mean.. well forget it, you’ll understand it yourself when you watch it.

All in all it’s a good anime, neither great nor bad, and you can definitely give it a try.
